A: Yes, the SolarEdge Home Battery 400V can be connected to the SolarEdge Home Wave AC coupled inverter.

Q3: Can the SolarEdge Home Battery 400V be connected to a HD Wave inverter with an LCD screen?

A: Yes.  A SolarEdge Home Network Plug-In Kit will be required though.   The part number is ENET-HBPV3D-01.  This contains the SolarEdge Home Network-ready communication board with LCD and matching SolarEdge Home Network Plug-In.

More information on the Plug-In kits can be found at https://www.solaredge.com/sites/default/files/se-energynet-plugin-kit-selection-tech-note.pdf

Q4: Will SolarEdge Home Wave inverters continue to be compatible with other batteries (e.g. LG)?

A: Only the LG Chem RESU16H Prime. This will need a StorEdge interface (see Datasheet here) or the StorEdge single Phase inverter (see Datasheet here)

Q5: Are older inverters with displays compatible with this battery, even when using a StorEdge Interface?

A: No, the SolarEdge Home Battery 400V is only compatible with SetApp enabled SolarEdge Home Wave inverters or HD Wave inverters.

Backup

Q1: Will it be possible to use the SolarEdge Home Battery 400V in backup operation?

A: The functions of the storage system are defined not so much by the battery but by the inverter that manages the charge and discharge cycles.

The SolarEdge Home Wave inverters will not support backup functionality.

The SolarEdge Home Hub inverters will support backup functionality with the use of the SolarEdge Home Backup Interface (BUI).  It is expected in 2023.

Installation

Q1: Can the SolarEdge Home Battery 400V be wall mounted?

A: Yes, the wall mount bracket is provided with the battery.  The battery must be installed in a vertical position.

Q2: Will it be possible to install the SolarEdge Home Network on existing inverters?

A: Yes, if the inverter is SetApp enabled. If the inverter has an LCD display, a SolarEdge Home Network Plugin Kit will be required.  See Q3 Compatibility.

Q3: Is the SolarEdge Home Battery modular?

A: SolarEdge Home Battery 400V is a monolithic battery and therefore cannot be broken down into its construction elements.

The 121kg weight is not due solely to the size of the battery but also to the advanced safety mechanisms, reliability and overall system performance that has guided development of this product.

The correct installation method determines that the handling of the battery takes place safely with the help of lifting means if necessary.

Q4: How many SolarEdge Home Battery 400V’s can be paralleled together?

A: Three SolarEdge Home Batteries can be connected to a single inverter. Three SolarEdge Home Wave inverters can be installed per site, each with batteries attached. Additional inverters without storage can also be added to the site if required.

Q5: Can the Communications Gateway (CCG) and SolarEdge Energy Meter be used to measure the load where it is not possible to have an RS485 connection between the inverter and meter?

A: No. The meter must be hardwired to the inverter to ensure accuracy and reduce latency.

Commissioning and Operation

Q1: How is the SolarEdge Home Battery 400V firmware updated?

A: The battery firmware is updated via SetApp which uses the inverter as a communication bridge with the battery, via the SolarEdge Energy Net protocol.

Q2: Can the SolarEdge Home Wave SE2200H charge the battery to 100%?

A: It is not the size of the inverter but the following two factors that determine the possibility of charging the battery to its maximum state:

  1. The size of the PV plant in DC, which determines the amount of energy available to charge the battery.
  2. The consumption pattern that determines how much surplus energy is available to charge the battery.

SolarEdge Designer allows for consumption data to be evaluated and can provide a guide as to how much surplus PV may be available to charge the battery.

Q3: Can usage priorities be set where a SolarEdge Home Battery is AC coupled to an installation with an existing SolarEdge PV system and third party EV charger?

A: The SolarEdge Home Battery 400V can be AC coupled to an existing SolarEdge PV system with an EV charger. Priorities for SolarEdge devices can be set through the mySolarEdge App to provide energy to desired loads preferentially. Depending upon the application, it may be necessary to provide specific settings for non-SolarEdge components to achieve the desired outcome.

Q4: Can the SolarEdge Home Battery 400V be installed inside?

A: The range of operating temperatures and the IP protection degree of the SolarEdge Home Battery 400V allows for both indoor and outdoor installations.  This provides maximum flexibility in identifying the ideal location for the battery.

Configurations

Q1: Can a single phase SolarEdge Home Wave inverter be installed on a 3-phase supply?

A: Yes, however we recommend the use of our SolarEdge Home Battery 48V and StorEdge 3 phase inverter for 3 phase supplies. This will provide an efficient PV/storage solution.

Q2: Can 3 SolarEdge Home Wave single phase inverters with storage be installed on a 3-phase supply?

A: Yes, but you will need to install separate meter and CT’s per phase. This will also require 3 separate sites in the Monitoring, as the meters will conflict each other in the Dashboard if on one site.

Q:3 Are all SetApp enable single phase SolarEdge Home Wave compatible with the SolarEdge Home Battery 400V?

A: Yes

Q4: How is the SolarEdge Home Battery 400V connected to an inverter already equipped with the Zigbee Plug-In?

A: RS485 can be used to connect the battery to the inverter where there is an existing Zigbee solution in use.  The preferred method for communication between the battery and inverter is the SolarEdge Home Network.

When using RS485, please make sure the meter and the connection to the inverter are on the same communication bus. With the EV charger integrated inverter, please connect into RS485/1. With the single phase StorEdge inverter, please use RS485/1 as the interface is not used with the SolarEdge Home Battery 400V. Only use the Interface and RS485/2 with the LG Chem RESU16H Prime.
